October is gone :( so things happen

sad fact,

but no worries! hopefully there will be more where that came from! assuming the earth doesnt crash and burn before it! but apocalyptic naysayers aside

,

its going to be an interesting november.

presently, i have an eviction notice waggling in my face, which means
a) phonesex for everyone!
b) camels can communicate telepathically!
or c) i need a new place to live

the answer is C

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

positive attitudes everyone
maybe i will hold a commissions drive, like the people who actually have followers.
with that, i will facilitate my moving and hopefully make a few people happy.

so, thats new. um, what else

oh! potential slot in the massart holiday sale! that'd be neat!

anything else ben?

na... well maybe. if i can finish coloring it, y'all will be getting some goodies, pro bono ;)
but on the bright side...

well thats my homework for this week.
tune in next time space cadets ;P

homework and ephiphany

Some recent classwork of mine. I'm getting more confident with acrylics, and soon I will post what might be my finest painting to date, should I be capable of prying it out of my commissioner's hands long enough to photograph it

model
apple
stippled weed

oh, and a smashing idea i had for the next convention,
to protect the kiddies

the new year; aka. heres hoping it doesn't suck

alrighty then kiddies, we have a batch cooking up for 2011

a) the big guns = muckraker is back in production. i know its been dicey, and i hate the tease as much as any of you, but trust me, this baby is long overdue and its about time i get it out of my system

b) the new kid = mister blake, brand spanking new character who deserves a spot somewhere in the stars this year. i mean, who doesn't love a hired killer. with any luck, he'll get a cameo somewhere, or at the very least an one-shot

c) expansion pack = near legend is an eventual matter. i'm still working on her script, but being the optimistic twit i am, i'm thinking that there's something more than a pilot in the works.

d) i might have a short autobiographical film put together by the end of the semester.
maybe...

also, i've got a friend in California (stupid spellcheck forcing the capital letters on me) who is currently a film student. this man's work is really witty, and someday i hope to do a joint project with him. right now, im working on a non profit promotional etching for his upcoming short "ninja noir," which we're all chomping our nails for. no doubt we're looking at another knockout.

wowza, it is two thirty and i still have an essay to finish for written comp that i'll post when done
i'll do it in the morning. maybe listen to this song one last time before i close the laptop

i'm excited about sleeping in a bed tonight :)
ciao!

excuses and eye candy

portraits.
all right then, i'll be back soon

-------------------------------------------------------------------
hello

so its been a month since i've said anything? well at least i'm not as bad at updating as Paul Pope.
some recent developments in my life have made self expression somewhat difficult. like homework for my classes at massart. and nanowrimo.com. and relationship issues. but enough about me, this is a blog...

about me...

so well that kinda defeats all purposes.

anyhow, i'm almost finished with my new one shot, a ten pager currently untitled, but its probably got some of the best drawing i've done in a while, so i look forward to finishing that. finally you'll get some eye candy up here.
what else can i do... hmm
i know!

initiating launch sequence

i think that in the best interest of anyone that may stumble upon this site, there ought to be some sort of introduction in the way of letting people know what i am about over here.

my name is benjamin doane, and i make comics.

presently (as of october eleventh two thousand and ten) i am unpublished, but have produced several works and am currently involved in a number of projects, which include my graphic novel "muckraker" (which has been "in the works" for the last three years) and a picaresque science fiction serial started this september.

however, anything i do in this area is outside of my being a undergraduate student of the massachusetts college of art and design, and so the time in which i am able to work on these projects is severely limited. hopefully though, i will learn to balance these aspects of my life so as to benefit both, and still make time for my social life and perhaps even a job (if i can find one.)

yep, all this and still optimistic.

For all the nouns i draw on for inspiration, foremost on this list are my friends and family who support just about every one of my harebrained ideas. where would a protagonist be without his supporting cast?
as far as other artists go, i am endlessly enthralled by the painting and photocollage of artist dave mckean, whose work graced the covers of neil gaiman's "sandman" series and filled the pages of gaiman's "black orchid" and grant morrison's "arkham asylum."

closely thereafter is mike mignola with his simplified yet instantly recognizable forms, which stike with clarity and then compel reapplied attentions to his sequences of splendor. mignola is known foremost for his creation of the comic series "hellboy."

and lastly is paul pope, who has worked with both american and japanese companies, producing such provocative pieces such as "heavy liquid" and "batman; year 100" in which the fluid linework just leaps off the page.

so thats the crux of all that stuff
thanks for tuning in, and here
something cool to look at
